Backgrounds
A background sits behind a slide’s text and layers. Each theme has a background that every slide uses unless you change it.
- To change one slide’s background, select the slide and click Change… beside Background in the inspector.
- To change it for every slide, edit the theme’s background. See Themes.

Background types
Section titled “Background types”| Tab | What you can set |
|---|---|
| Color | A solid color: the theme’s colors, presets, or a hex value. |
| Gradient | Presets, or your own Stops (two or more colors) and Angle. |
| Image | An image from your Library. Fit: Cover, Contain or Fill. |
| Video | A video from your Library, with Fit and Playback options. Background videos are usually set to loop without sound. |

Scenes
Section titled “Scenes”Guidepost includes eight scenes: Still Waters, Vesper, Crimson Veil, Linen, Slate, Dawn Haze, Ember and Aurora. Hover over a scene to preview it, and click to apply it.
Scenes move gently on the canvas and on screens, and stay still in thumbnails. They pause while the screen is frozen, and when Reduce motion is on in System Settings › Accessibility.
Turn on Dim to add a color tint over the background. This can make text easier to read over a bright image or video. Choose the Dim color and adjust its strength.
Going back to the theme
Section titled “Going back to the theme”When a slide has its own background, the inspector marks it with a dot and shows Reset to theme. Click it to use the theme’s background again.
