Media
Library › Media holds the images and videos you use for slides, backgrounds and layers.
Import media
Section titled “Import media”- Click Import… and choose files or folders.
- Click Add from Photos… to choose images and videos from your Photos library. Guidepost only receives the items you choose.
- Drag files or folders from Finder, or items from the Photos app, anywhere onto the Media section.
Media you add from the Media picker in Design, or drop onto the slide list or canvas, is added to the Library too.
Importing shows progress in the title bar’s activity indicator, where you can cancel it. When it’s done, a notice summarizes the result, such as “Imported 12 files”. Files that couldn’t be imported are listed with the reason, such as “Video format Macs can’t play” or “Damaged”. Files already in the Library aren’t copied again.
Formats
Section titled “Formats”- Images: JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF and TIFF.
- Video: MOV, MP4 and M4V, including H.264, HEVC, ProRes, HDR, and video with a transparent background.
- Converted automatically: WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV and OGV. These are converted in the background after import. To turn conversion off, go to Settings › Library.
- Audio files can’t be added yet.
Large files
Section titled “Large files”Very large videos may not play smoothly on older Macs. Guidepost warns you when you import a file over 1 GB, and suggests a smaller export. To change the size limit for the warning or turn it off, use Warn about large files in Settings › Library.
Imports are limited by available disk space. If there isn’t enough room, Guidepost says how much is needed.
Media details
Section titled “Media details”Select an item to see its type, dimensions, size, duration (for video), the date it was added, and its tags. Used in lists the slides in the open presentation that use it, and how many other recent presentations do.
From the details or the right-click menu:
- Add to presentation: adds a Media slide.
- Quick Look: preview it (or press Space).
- Add to Favorites.
- Replace File…: swap the item’s file for a new one. An image can only be replaced with an image, and a video with a video.
- Show in Finder.
- Delete….
To rename an item, click its name in the details, or select it and press Return.
Use All, Images and Videos at the top to filter by type.
Presentations from other Macs
Section titled “Presentations from other Macs”Every saved presentation contains its own copy of the media it uses. When you open a presentation made on another Mac, its media plays straight from the file. If it contains media that isn’t in your Library, Guidepost offers to add it: click Add N items to Library, or Not now. Guidepost makes this offer once per presentation file. You can turn this offer off in Settings › Library.
