Slides and groups

The slide list on the left of Design shows every slide in order.

  • A slide on its own appears as a numbered thumbnail.
  • A group appears as one thumbnail with its range (for example, “3–8”), a caption row with the group’s name and a summary, and, when expanded, a compact row for each slide.
    • Song groups show the number of sections and slides, such as “6 sections · 9 slides”.
    • Scripture groups show the reference and the number of verses. The translation is shown when it isn’t your default.
  • Compact rows show each slide’s label (such as “Verse 1”, “Chorus” or a verse number like “16a”), the start of its text, and its slide number.
  • Badges show when a slide’s text has been split or edited:
    • Split: a long verse was split across more than one slide.
    • Edited: the slide’s song or scripture text was changed from the original.
  • Live marks the slide that’s on screen during a service.
  • Skipped slides are dimmed. See Skipping slides.

Click a group’s caption row to collapse or expand it.

  • Click a slide to select it.
  • ⇧-click to select a range, or ⌘-click to add or remove one slide.
  • Use ↑ and ↓ to move through slides; add ⇧ to extend the selection.

Selected slides can be moved, duplicated, deleted, grouped or restyled together.

Drag slides, or a whole group by its thumbnail, to a new position. A line shows where they’ll land. You can drag slides into a group, out of it, or within it. Groups can’t be placed inside other groups.

With the slide list focused:

Action Shortcut
Duplicate ⌘D

Cut, copy, paste ⌘X, ⌘C, ⌘V
Select all ⌘A

Slides can be copied from one presentation and pasted into another. Every change can be undone with ⌘Z.

  • Make a group: select slides and choose Edit › Group (⌘G). Type a name for the group and press Return.
  • Rename a group: double-click its caption row, or choose Rename Group… from the right-click menu.
  • Ungroup: select the group and choose Edit › Ungroup (⇧⌘G). The slides stay in place as individual slides.
  • Give a group its own theme: right-click it, choose Apply Theme to Group, and pick a theme. Choose Use Presentation Theme to go back. A notice says how many slides changed.

To keep a slide in the file but pass over it during the service, right-click it and choose Skip in Present. Skipped slides are dimmed and marked Skipped. Next and Previous pass over them in Present, but you can still show one by clicking it. Choose Skip in Present again to turn it back on.

Right-click a slide for:

  • Duplicate, Delete
  • Group, Ungroup, Rename Group…, Apply Theme to Group
  • Set as Anchor Passage (scripture groups only; see Anchor passages)
  • Copy Style, Paste Style
  • Replace Media… (when the slide has an image or video)
  • Save as Saved Slide…
  • Skip in Present

Copy Style (⌥⌘C) copies a slide’s look, and Paste Style (⌥⌘V) applies it to the selected slides. With the canvas focused instead, the same commands copy and paste a layer’s style.

Every slide has Notes at the bottom of the inspector, for reminders such as “Wait for the pastor’s cue”. Notes appear in Present under Up Next and, if you choose, on the Stage Display. They’re never shown to the audience.
