Importing songs

In Library › Songs, click Import… to open Import songs. It has two tabs: Files and Paste text. The Song picker’s Import… button opens the same window.

On the Files tab, drop files or folders onto the window, or click Choose files…. Folders are searched for song files, including any folders inside them.

Supported formats:

Format File extensions
ChordPro .cho, .chopro, .chordpro, .pro, .crd
OpenLyrics .xml
CCLI SongSelect .txt, .usr

Each file is imported as soon as it’s read, and listed with its format, the number of sections, whether chords were kept, its CCLI number, and a status: Imported, Replaced or Skipped. Files that aren’t songs are skipped with a reason.

The summary at the bottom shows the totals, for example “Imported 12 songs · 1 duplicate skipped · 2 files skipped”. Click Show in Library to see the new songs, or Done.

The Import songs window listing six files: four imported, one Amazing Grace duplicate with Skip, Replace and Keep both buttons, and a PDF skipped as not a song file.
Importing a folder of song files. A duplicate waits for your choice.

A song with the same title as one already in your Library (and the same CCLI number, when both have one) is marked Already in your Library. Guidepost tells you when your copy was last edited and how many arrangements it has. Choose:

  • Skip: keep your copy and ignore the file. This is the default.
  • Replace: replace your copy with the file. Favorites and usage history are kept.
  • Keep both: import the file as a separate song.

On the Paste text tab, paste the lyrics of a song. Guidepost detects:

  • the title, authors, CCLI number and key, if they’re in the text;
  • sections, from blank lines and labels such as “Verse 1” or “Chorus”;
  • chords written in square brackets.

Check the detected sections, change any label from its menu, then click Add to Library. You can edit the song afterwards in the song editor.

To import lyrics from a printed song sheet or a screenshot, click From image… on the Paste text tab and choose the image, or drop an image onto the Files tab. Guidepost reads the text on your Mac and puts it in the paste box, where you can correct it before adding the song.
